News and Coming Events

Congregational Prayer Meeting

Every Sunday, prior to our Worship Service, a Congregational Prayer Meeting is held from 9:30 am - 9:45 am in the Meeting Room adjacent to the Chapel. Anyone who can attend for all or part of the time will be most welcome.

Monthly Friday Chapel Service

A Worship Service is held in the St John's Chapel at 2:00 pm on the first Friday afternoon of each month, to be conducted alternately by Rev Semisi and Rev Julie. The 45 minute service will include prayer, singing and Holy Communion and will be followed by afternoon tea. All are welcome and transport can be provided if required.

Talent Sharing Group

The Talent Sharing Group get together on the 2nd and 3rd Wednesday each month, from 9:30 am - 12:00 pm. The group work together to knit, crochet and sew items such as quilts, rugs, cot blankets and other infant wear. These are then packed up and sent to areas of great need, with a focus on Care4Kids Uganda.

At left - Christina Ward from St John's with former member Dorothy Mills, who moved from St John's to live on the Mornington Peninsula. They are pictured with a selection of items recently contributed by Dorothy and her friends in Dromana.

These items, together with more of the same created by the Talent Sharing Group at St John's form just part of the contribution made to Care4Kids Uganda

Kids Hope Aus

Kids Hope Aus is a ministry aimed at creating a positive impact in the lives of vulnerable Australian children and their families. It is a mentoring program built on a long-term partnership between local churches and primary schools, where a caring adult from the church spends one hour each week with a child. St. John's and Park Lane Primary School have established just such a partnership and eight members of the church meet with the children each week.

Prayer Shawl Ministry - Knitters needed!

The Shawl Ministry is going ahead so well that we need people to knit more shawls. There is wool available in the office and Kathy Ferguson can advise if you need details. Please click here for more information on the Prayer Shawl Ministry.

Share Appeal

Please support Share's Appeals. Your gift will go towards emergency relief such as:

  • Food - bread, hot meals, non-perishable items, grocery or meal vouchers. So homeless families know they won't go hungry.
  • Clothing - clothing and bedding is always urgently needed.
  • Medical help - the doctors' visits and medicines that the homeless can't afford. So illnesses don't have to go undiagnosed and untreated.
  • Crisis housing - putting roofs over the heads of the homeless through temporary shelter. They can then get help to find long-term affordable rental or public housing.

On 1 July 2017, Share joined Uniting, the new community services arm of the Uniting Church in Victoria and Tasmania.

Uniting was formed from a network of 22 agencies and two Church business units – Early Childhood Services and Share.

We came together as Uniting to ensure the best possible outcomes for the people we support now and into the future. We want to address the anticipated changes within the community services sector.

This is an exciting chapter in Share’s life as we come together with existing UnitingCare and Wesley Mission Victoria fundraising teams to form a united and cohesive fundraising program.

Donations will continue to support people who are most in need and the programs that are close to your heart. As part of the merger Uniting will continue delivering over 700 programs to our communities across Victoria and Tasmania.

If you wish to make a donation via St. John's to any of these appeals, please place an envelope, with your name, in the offering plate.
